💼 Growth of CALL 💼
💠CALL was first introduced in the 1960's on university mainframe computers. As the time keeps moving forward, CALL has undergone its progression throughout many years. It starts with Behavioristic CALL, then to Communicative CALL and the final progress is Integrated CALL.
💮This is the first phase of CALL, it was conceived in the 1950's and was implemented in the 1960's and 70's. It was based on the then-dominant behaviorist theorist of learning. Program of this phase entailed repetitive language drills and can be referred as "drill and practice". The courseware is based on the model of the computer as a tutor, a vehicle of delivering instructional materials to the student. It is aimed to transfer textbooks and worksheets to computer-based application.
💮This is the second phase of CALL. It is based on the communicative approach to teaching which became prominent in the 1970's and 80's. Proponents of this approach felt that the drill and practice program of the previous decade did not allow enough authentic communication to be much of value.
✩Focused more on the usage of language rather than perfect grammar.
✩Teaches grammar implicitly rather than explicitly.
✩Allow students to generate their own original utterance.

💮The last phase of computer-assisted language learning is integrated CALL. It integrates the the teaching of language skills into tasks or projects multimedia technology (providing texts, graphics, sound and animation).
✩Began with the use of CD-ROMs until store large amounts of authentic media that can be used as materials.
✩It began popular with the development of high speed internet widely accessible hypermedia.
🌴Conclusion🌴
The CALL program had to go through a lot of growth in terms of the addition in the features of the program itself. It developed into a program that helped many students nowadays.
