Lesson 6 : Instructional Courseware Design

Instructional Courseware Design

It is about the creation of instructional experiences which makes the acquisition of knowledge and skills becomes mote efficient, effective and appealing.

It can be sorted by figuring the needs of :-

💙 the learner
💙 the learning objectives
💙 creating intervention to achieve the objectives

There are 5 steps that needs to be taken look at for the development of instructional coursework :-

🍑Analysis : Identifying the objectives, the learner's level and needs

🍒 Design : Developing plans and strategies targeted to achieve the project goals by creating a storyboard of what the course would look like

🍑 Development : Developers assemble the content and assets based on the blueprints in the design phase while the creators develop graphics and materials to  be integrated into the courseware

🍒 Implementation : The procedures have been developed for the courseware and training for the facilitators will be provided to use the courseware

🍑 Evaluation : Evaluating the impacts of the courseware. There are two parts of the evaluation phase which are formative and summative

Conclusion

Instructional Courseware Design provides many benefits such as it can promote effective learning and also saves our time and money.

Lesson 5 : CMC ?

What is CMC ?

💮CMC is a process of human interactions via computers. It occurs to the use of two or more electronic devices. We can interact with people all around the world using online applications or devices with internet connection.

CMC in Education

🌷It started in the late 1980's and 90's together with the introduction of CALL.

🌷During that time, we only used e-mail and online forums to get communicate with each other.

🌷Chatting rooms and also the long distance learning and teaching system were implemented during that time.

Types of CMC

🍒Asynchronous

🍒Synchronous

🍁Asynchronous ⇨ Communication that is not synchronized. It means the message is not exchanged and replied immediately as other users are not available at the same time.

🍁Synchronous ⇨ Synchronized communication is where both of the participants are available at the same time. The messages can be exchanged instantly and it allows direct communication so that the feedback can be received immediately.

Collaborative Learning

❀This is a learning system that occurs by using computers as it can enhance the interaction between students and group work. It is not limited to just for discussion among the students but it can be a platform for the students to increase their problem solving skills by using applications such as Google Doc, Google Drive and even Messenger.

CMC has its own pros and cons.

Pros

1. We can connect with other people outside of our country. Calling someone from another country is expensive but with email and chat rooms people can communicate with people from other countries for free✨

2. Documents, pictures, and videos can be sent instantly. Anything from the internet can be at the tips of your fingers in a matter of seconds.

Cons

1. You will lose basic communication skills. With the advancement of computers, people will start to communicate only through computers or devices and not face to face. Basic communication skills are essential for future jobs and everyday life.

conclusion

In my opinion, CMC is a good tool to simplify our lives in terms of communication. But we have to make sure not to abuse the comfort that CMC has given to us.

Lesson 4 : Search Engines 🚀

What is Search Engine?

💜It is a web software that helps users to search for information on the World Wide Web by entering keyword on it and websites contain the information will appear in seconds.

💚 Google, Bing and Yahoo! Search enables users to search for any documents on the World Wide Web.

How does it actually work?
💙Web search engines work by sending out a spider or webcrawlers to fetch as many documents as possible. The usual starting point are lists of heavily used server and very popular pages. Another program, called the indexer, then reads these documents and creates and index based on the words contained in each document. In this way, the spidering system quickly begins to travel and spreads out across the most widely used portions of the Web.

Lesson 3 : The Rise of CALL

💼 Growth of CALL 💼

💠CALL was first introduced in the 1960's on university mainframe computers. As the time keeps moving forward, CALL has undergone its progression throughout many years. It starts with Behavioristic CALL, then to Communicative CALL and the final progress is Integrated CALL.

Behavioristic CALL

💮This is the first phase of CALL, it was conceived in the 1950's and was implemented in the 1960's and 70's. It was based on the then-dominant behaviorist theorist of learning. Program of this phase entailed repetitive language drills and can be referred as "drill and practice". The courseware is based on the model of the computer as a tutor, a vehicle of delivering instructional materials to the student. It is aimed to transfer textbooks and worksheets to computer-based application.

( Example of Questions )

 Communicative CALL

💮This is the second phase of CALL. It is based on the communicative approach to teaching which became prominent in the 1970's and 80's. Proponents of this approach felt that the drill and practice program of the previous decade did not allow enough authentic communication to be much of value.

✩Focused more on the usage of language rather than perfect grammar.
✩Teaches grammar implicitly rather than explicitly.
✩Allow students to generate their own original utterance.

 Integrated CALL

💮The last phase of computer-assisted language learning is integrated CALL. It integrates the the teaching of language skills into tasks or projects multimedia technology (providing texts, graphics, sound and animation).

✩Began with the use of CD-ROMs until store large amounts of authentic media that can be used as materials.
✩It began popular with the development of high speed internet widely accessible hypermedia.

🌴Conclusion🌴

The CALL program had to go through a lot of growth in terms of the addition in the features of the program itself. It developed into a program that helped many students nowadays.
